through the heatwave

well, it's finally happened. triple digit heatwave everybody! i was fortunate enough to have the last two days off so i happily stayed in and managed to stay cool for most of this heatwave. according to the acu weather app, we'll be in 70s on saturday. hallelujah! i don't fare well in sweltering heat. i know, i know, i should move somewhere where it's always cold. but you show me a place that's cold and has amazing mexican food A N D vietnamese food and we'll talk. if you ain't got all three i'm not going anywhere! 

i really have nothing to report. life is good. mother's day was cool. got to spend some time with my momma although not enough time as i had anticipated, but a little time is better than no time. then spent some time with my boy's momma. split duties nowadays. good thing christmas will never be an argument as mexicans celebrate it on christmas eve and pretty much everyone else focuses more on christmas day. 

love my Live Beautifully tote bag from Ruche! they made these puppies for their 5 year anniversary and to celebrate their Live Beautifully campaign. i bought five of them and gave away 4 to some pals and one to my sis. i think they're perfect reminders to live our lives in a beautiful way, a way that makes us happy and fulfills us. i know it can be very easy to fall prey to intrusive thoughts always badgering us about not being thin enough or pretty enough or w h a t e v e r, we just need to take a step back and go in another direction. the one that will light the way to not caring what anyone else has to say--that's the road we wanna be on. self love is tough, partly because we are our own worst critics. but i think little by little, letting that hatred go opens up the path to living beautifully. and truthfully, we all deserve to be on that path.

Meet Ein

So if you follow me on instagram, then you know that two weekends ago i totally died of a cute attack at the amazing Corgi Beach Day event at the doggy beach in Huntington Beach. Over 250 corgis just running around all over the beach! Some were off leash and they would just come by and play with you and leave. It was insane! I had to seriously fight everything within me so that i didnt steal a corgi that day. i want one so bad!

My date to corgi beach day was this handsome pup, Ein. he's seriously so adorable. Everything is exciting to him and he looooves making new friends. Also, Ein is the most passive dog i've ever met. I didnt hear him bark once! AHHHHH I can't wait to hang out with this little doggy soon! His owner, my pal Jenn, and i have lots of adventures planned for this coming summer so hopefully there will be more of Ein around here!

On a different note, i loooove this super comfy outfit. Both top and bottoms are from Ruche and while i normally would not have worn these together, i'm so glad i did because i'm totally digging it now. Happy accident! The embroidery detailing on this top is sooooo nice. I'm really glad embroidery detailing is popular again because i love lurking for new clothes that have great little details. But really though, i don't think it ever really went out of style. Maybe, that's just my opinion because i'm always buying stuff with a folksy touch. Love that embroidery!

Also, these lounge pants! I LOVE THEM. i'm turning into a lounge pant crazy lady! ayyyy. These are so freaking awesome. Breezy and comfy and rad color too. I'm pretty sure you're going to see these a lot around here. sorryimnotsorry! haha. Only thing that drives me crazy about these pants is how easily they wrinkle. T___T but everything that wrinkles drives me crazy.

How exciting! Spending my day off sneezing every two minutes and a headache to boot. T____T. So sad that finally i have a day off and i feel awful. i just wanted to get a move on on my spring cleaning! ayyyyy. to top it off i'm feelin really bad about breaking paleo yesterday. i went to olive garden and i ate ALL THE BREADSTICKS. and i got the unhealthiest pasta ever. so i've been in a gluten coma and sneezing all day. so much fun happening over here. okay okay, enough complaining. i'll get up when im done with this and do some cleaning. a little is at least something right? hehe

in non complain-y news, i totally am super stoked i recently got new glasses. it's so nice to be able to see clearly! and it's been really helpful to have more than one pair of glasses because i'm always in a hurry and if i cant find one pair, odds are i know where the other pair is. haha. these glasses are super cool because they were free! haha. i mentioned a while ago that i had won a giveaway on Belphoebe's blog, Rags Of Love, for some London Retro frames courtesy of MyOptique and i must say, they are freakin awesome! i got the Nancy frames and they are so ridiculously pretty in person. when the light hits them you can see the hints of blue in the frames. not going to lie though, i was a little worried that i would never get these babies because they were being shipped from the UK. but they were shipped in a ridiculously fast manner and dealing with the folks at myoptique was a breeze. when i have some money saved up i'll probably see if they have another pair i'd like. i like having options!

Brick Walls & Bike Progress

Coachella weekend was awesome! I didn't go but all the bros/douchebags in my city did so getting around town this weekend was so nice! We even got a table right away at my favorite breakfast spot on Sunday. You can totally think I'm making a joke here but seriously that's how it was!

While everyone was at brochella I even took my bike out for a spin! I haven't ridden the bike in probably three weeks (maybe four?) and out of nowhere we decided to ride out in the street. Not entirely the best idea but I was feeling rather courageous and I got my new helmet in the mail. I got the silver glittery one in case you were wondering from last time. (It's awesome makes me look/feel like robocop). We rode out on the sidewalk a little to get to this industrial part of town where no one goes on weekends so I could get some practice. Now this is the craziest thing, riding on the sidewalk freaks me out, makes me really nervous and it throws me off balance, but when I ride on the bike lane (even with a few cars passing me by) I'm totally not nervous! Talk about being backwards. Either way, our next step is to take the basket off my bike because I'm 100% convinced its what's throwing me off balance. It's too bad because its such a nice Linus basket. Maybe we'll put it back on when I feel ready. I can't wait to get better at bike riding so I can bike to work from the train station. :)

Anyway keepin it short today.

Through the Looking Glass(es)

This past week I went to get my annual eye exam. Even I'm surprised I did it in a timely manner guys. Usually I'd wait like two years or I'd go only when I reeeeeaaaallly needed new glasses. There was even a year I found glasses in costume storage at uni with a previous prescription and I totally wore them. It was a little strong at first but eventually my eyes got adjusted to it. Can we say BAD IDEA? Yeah. Lol. One night of crazy dancing at part time punks and they flew off my face and a big lumberjack type dude stepped on em. Saddest story ever. 

But rest assured because luckily, my prescription didnt change much! If anything the optometrist said that my right eye got a tiiiiinnnyyy smidge better. Weird, but cool. So thankfully I won't need to get new glasses but I'm totally going to get new ones for one reason only: finding them in time. 

As you can all assume, I'm like the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, always running late, or even if I'm actually not because I'm one of those psychos who needs to leave an hour earlier all the time, I'm always stuck in panic mode until I reach my destination. And more often than not I have spent my entire morning looking for my glasses because I couldn't remember where I put them the night before. Yes, I know, why don't you put them in the same spot every night? I don't know. I'm lazy. 

So to solve this dilemma, I'm just going to have to own several pairs. Plus it'll be cool to wear different specs depending on outfit don't you agree? Last week I got notification that i won a contest for glasses over on Belphoebe's Rags of Love from MyOptique promoting London Retro specs and i swear, this couldnt have happened at a much better time! yes! (thanks again, Bel!) I chose the Nancy frames in mixed from London Retro and i can't wait to get those babies. Also, i'm going to order the fab Kimball frames in marzipan tortoise from Warby Parker. 

I've got my eye on a few pairs over on lookmatic too so when i recover from my giant bike purchase i'm definitely getting more frames. In the meantime, i'm also looking at sunglasses because i don't have any and the optometrist suggested i get some. i have a pair of awesome raybans but sadly i can't wear them anymore because they don't have my prescription and every place i've taken them to wants to charge me $350+ to put prescription lenses on them UH NO THANKS. that's certainly more than the sunnies even cost me. so until i figure that out, i'm thinking about getting these sweet Greta shades that Warby Parker did in collaboration with Leith Clark and these Ricky shades from lookmatic.

One last thing...

this may be weird but here are retinal photos of my eyes. crazy right!? diabetes runs in my family, and unfortunately diabetes has permanently affected my mom's vision. Now that they offer these cool digital eye exams that basically scan the back of our eyes for any tumors or irregularities, we owe it to ourselves and our well being to have the exams done, especially if you or your family has a history of a particularly damaging disease. good news, nothing irregular here :)
