maxin'

hi there. took a quick break here since i basically melted away from the heat. thankfully this past week was much, much cooler and bearable.  been getting a move on on my spring cleaning, which i'm pretty sure is going to turn into summer cleaning as well. i take too many breaks, that's the problem. you know when you're looking through things and then you find something that makes you nostalgic and then you get so nostalgic that five hours pass by and then you have to do something else or go to bed? yeah. that's been happening a lot. i clearly have no cleaning discipline. so, it took me this whole week to just clean a corner of the living room. lol. and that drafting table i keep blabbing about? still hasn't been put back together. soon. SOON. it has to happen soon!

so, i have a confession to make. this is my first ever maxi dress. yes, it's true. i've never owned a maxi dress with the intention of wearing it as a maxi dress. every maxi dress i've ever thrifted i've always altered and hemmed. i couldn't get maxis to work on me without looking like Mrs. Roper from Three's Company. but now, i'm really diggin the Mrs. Roper look so i'm not trippin' any more. haha. this dress is from free people and i'm in love (i mean, at that price tag you kind of have to be! haha). but on the real, the embroidery is so gosh darn beautiful! i need to add another hook an eye to the front to keep the ladies inside since it's not really the type of dress you wanna keep puncturing with a safety pin. and really, if you've got the skills to fix dresses, just do it. i have a pile of things i need to fix but i'm so lazy. i've got plenty of projects to keep me busy this summer haha. anyway, i think i've been bitten by the maxi dress bug. eep!

oh, i have a question for ya'll. have you guys ever worn shoes with ankle straps and had the ankle straps give you blisters? like wtf! these super cute gee wawa's gave me blisters and i'm so afraid to wear them again. i'm thinking of putting some moleskine along the strap so it doesnt irritate my skin so much. this has never happened to me so i'm a little confused. if i ever get blisters it's usually on the back of the heel or on the ball of my right foot. i emailed gee wawa and i didn't get a response. thanks a lot guys, really makes me wanna purchase your shoes again. (eye roll).  oh well, if you have any tricks let me know, i'd appreciate it. i wanna wear these shoes again!

the embroidery is too good

i should probably wear a slip with this

all right. i'm off to see if i'm really allergic to cats!

that birthday life

What is it about my birthdays never ever going as planned? At least I found the humor in it this year and I'm actually not upset at all. It's super silly though, how literally ALLLL my birthday plans foiled. All! But regardless we made the best of the crazy and I still had fun. I even did a few unplanned things and they were so much fun. I suppose I had forgotten what it was like to be totally random.

One of those unplanned things was go to the Orange County Museum of Art with my twinsie, Marla. It even worked out for us because it just so happened to be the second Sunday of the month which was their free day! It was a really small museum but they had a good collection.

A few favorites:

(so bad i can't remember who did these except for bottom right: Llyn Foulkes)
one of my favorites was this rad room with projections and lights. it totally made our reflections look like we were in a cool 90s music video. (i believe this installation was by Diana Thater, but i could be wrong).

Outside of the building was a peeing dog. Yes. A peeing dog. Hilarious and ridiculously surprising for conservative Orange County. "Bad Dog" by Richard Jackson.

And because it was my bday celebration I had to wear a cute dress! Here's this Dear Creatures dress I got from Ruche during the major winter sale and I won't tell you how much it cost me because then you'll be suuuuuper jealous! ;)

Outfit Details: Dear Creatures dress via Ruche, Tulle sweater (old), betsey johnson shoes  (sold out, similar here), fjallraven kanken mini (now found at urban), wet n wild purty persimmon lip color

Also we had lunch at Lemonade. I def broke paleo for that and it was totally worth it. Yes, that is mac and cheese and pot roast in that sandwich topped off with a very refreshing mint cucumber lemonade! Ugggghhhh I want one now!

first of all, i have to tell you guys...bare with me here with the grocery store outfit photos. i think it's pretty hilarious, but seriously, i have no other time to take photos and i feel like the blog has been quiet lately solely based on the fact that i just don't have any photos to post. D & i never have time off together during the day and we only ever go out to the grocery because we're boring old people, so here were are. also, we'll have to deal with crappy iphone photos for now my loves, because i just can't be bothered to carry a giant dslr everywhere with me. until i buy a nice dslr quality point and shoot type of camera, this will have to do!

on a more sartorial note here, can we talk about how i'm actually really into flares as of late? i loved them in jr. high and then after that i was just grossed out by them. i couldn't get past them. but nowwwww, i want all the flares! maybe it's all the 70s rock music i've been listening to lately that's really influencing my mood which in turn influences what i wear. that's just how it works and i'm totally not mad about it.

remember how i mentioned that i mixed teal dye with black and ended up with a witchy green? well, here it is! you normally can't even tell but i think it really pops out with this chartreuse sweater. also, too bad we didn't get a closer shot of this rad zodiac necklace, but take my word for it about how it's both equally creepy and awesome. the water bearer's face is just hilarious.

coat: tulle, sweater: urbanog, top: ruche, bottoms: urban outfitters (scored on major sale! sold out, similar), boots: frye via macys, glasses: derek cardigan via coastal, necklace: anthropologie, rings: vintage & threadsence, lip color: wet n' wild megalast in purty persimmon no. 970

all in all, i had a freaking amazing weekend of pure relaxation. i had thurs and fri off work so technically i had a four day weekend! sadly, i didn't get to spend much time with D to go out and play, but it was nice to get some relaxation time after the crazy holiday work hours i had been working. i've spent my weekend cooking like crazy and i'm super stoked! i've been trying a lot of Diane Sanfilippo's recipes from her newest book Practical Paleo and i have not been disappointed. now that we have car access it's easier for us to drive out and get grass-fed meats and organic produce for our paleo meals. don't worry guys, when i'm out with friends i'll go ahead and eat that cupcake, i just cook paleo mostly for my guy. it's just easier if we both do it and i'm not being that jerk eating a sandwich in front of the poor boy. but i'm not going to lie, eating paleo has made me feel more energized and i no longer feel lethargic all the time--let's face it i was heading towards prediabetes there, and i'm not kidding, it runs in my family. but let's leave all that diet business for another time!

Beauty Talk: September Wishlist

| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |

hey guys just droppin in for a quick one. i still havent gotten around to catching up on all your awesome blogs but i swearrrr that it will happen soon. i've been kindasortanotreally working on my portfolio and wrapping things up at my internship so i've been super busy around here. i've also been trying to stop being such a recluse and actually hanging out with friends and spending time with the boyfriend and my family.

anyway, here's my current beauty wishlist!

1. this living proof style extender is amazing! i got a sample of it in the beauty awards birchbox and it seriously is the best hair product ever. i dont wash my hair every day because it's colored but i usually feel weird about it because i feel that my hair gets limp and lifeless real quickly, but when i started using the living proof style extender it feels like it has more volume and it feels soft and looks shiny without being too shiny. on top of all that it smells amazing! i put it on after i wash my hair and towel dry a bit and just leave it in. i highly recommend it and i definitely need to buy this in a larger size. you only need about a quarter size droplet and you're good to go! (you could probably use half of that if you have short hair though)

2. i'm not usually a big eyeshadow user (because ive spent my time in high school being an eyeshadow abuser) but i'm really into that "no makeup" makeup look now and i def. want to start working that into my daily routine.

3. since i want to start using eyeshadow i need a good eyeshadow primer because i have the oiliest eyelids on earth (gross, i know). my sister uses this primer and she only has really good things to say about it.

4. D bought a clarisonic last year when we were in portland (hello no sales tax) and he seriously has used it like twice. whaaaat? so i'm just going to buy a new brush head and take it over because he's letting such a good product go to waste.

5. OMG. so i bought this lipstick in cherry bomb and it is so rad! and definitely not bad for $1.99! my sister has a few colors and suggested i give it a try and let me tell you at $2 these guys are a steal! they last quite a long time, which is perfect for me because i HATE to reapply lipstick, just hate it. and the colors are really rich. i bought another color, which name i can't recall, but i can easily compare it to NARS' scarlet empress. VERY impressive for a $2 lipstick. I've been on the market for a nice nude lip color so i feel like this would be nice to try, and safe, because i'm not sure if a nude color would even look good on me.

6. lastly, sephora has this awesome gift set for $25! that tarte lip stain costs $25 on its own so this is definitely a steal. i think i might buy my sister one for xmas, she's really into makeup if you already couldn't tell.
