In Dreams: A Day at the Farmer's Market

go ahead and tell me this isn't the perfect outfit for a day at the farmer's market! you can't! hahah. but on the real, i would probably wear this everywhere. can i please have these jett modern vice booties?! P L E A S E ! They are seriously so perfect in every way. In person, the leather is just so soft and dreamy. But that price tag. I just. I can't. HOLD ON. I need a moment to collect myself. 

okay. i've decided just now, i'm going to start saving them pennies for these babies because i just don't think i can live without them. ever since the day i saw them in real life i've needed them. i dont even know why i do this to myself. can i just win the lottery? liiiiiike am i going to get a second job so i can buy these? maybe.

okay. okay. let's move on before i have a breakdown. when i was a kid i loved fringe on everything! everything! i had a little fringe jacket and it was my favorite thing in the worrrld! until we moved and no one was able to find it. i was seriously depressed at age 6 over a fringe jacket. which btw, i didnt list here but cleobella has the fringe jacket of my dreams. this second job is probably gonna need to happen isn't it? ahaha anyway this little bag from irene's story is a good compromise for now, right?

this dress from Ruche is too perfect. i need it. need it. neeeeeed. i freakin adore the floral embroidery so much. it seriously makes the dress. there is also a similar one in sage green if you're interested. ;) i find that lately i've been gearing towards more blue clothing. all shades of blue. i don't know what this means. 

okay i'm getting loopy i have to get food now. have a good weekend and be good to your moms tomorrow.

Red Blues


riding a bike is so hard you guys. i know i said this before, but i'm gonna need to say it again. I NEED A LOT OF PRACTICE. seriously, a lot. we went bike riding on sunday and everything started out well, until i figured out that i actually am not as good as i thought balancing my body on a bike. i gripped the handlebar so hard my hands were hurting. but i'm not sure if that was just because i always get pain in my hands (sewing forever destroyed my hands) or because i suck at riding the bike. i think my basket is far too heavy for me right now because i have a feeling it's what is throwing the front of the bike off balance. so i'm going to have to remove it until i can figure out what is wrong with the front and why i have such a hard time balancing it. also, i'm more out of shape than i thought.  sunday's ride kicked my butt and we only did a short bike path. 

sigh. i sound like a whiny baby, but that fear i get, it's really scary. i had to stop riding because i felt like i was going to throw up and i felt dizzy. it was just awful. my body tensed up and i felt the same way i felt when i got in that scary accident in december. i don't know what's wrong with me and i don't know why the fear is so real. i can only take it one step at a time i suppose. here's to trying!

Fangirl

now that i'm really into flares i'm totally dreading the coming of summer. especially because here in socal we feel summertime at full blast. full nasty melt your face off heat and i just wanna wear flares every day. i'm probably going to try to stay in my city this whole summer since i'm so close to the beach it's always like ten degrees cooler here than anywhere else. anyway, back to flares, I LOVE THEM. i bought a sweet pair from free people and theyve got a crazy print but apparently free people runs larger than i thought and sadly i got them on sale. soooo i'll have to put that sewing machine to use. 
i wish they made flares that aren't super long. not everyone is 6'2"! i want to not have to wear heeled booties sometimes with flares ya know. yes, i am aware that you can always hem them, but then you lose the bell shape if you hem them too much. the pants struggle is real. 


so by now i'm sure you're all aware that i am the BIGGEST Erica Weiner jewelry fan so let me tell you  how ridiculously happy i am that i actually won an erica weiner contest on instagram! i'm always entering contests because why the heck not? and this time i actually won for something i really really really wanted: these super dainty erica weiner shape bracelets. YESSSSSS. thank you universe! these bracelets are so delicate and elegant, but honestly, you can wear them with anything! i certainly have been. in this case theyre dressed down, but you can definitely dress them up. so many possibilities. ah, so grateful!

Witch Baby

annnnd i'm finally getting used to having black hair. for a while there i was having a hard time recognizing myself in the mirror! lol.


so this top is hilarious solely based on the fact that its shape is a square. it seriously looks like a tablecloth...but i like it. i like the flowy-ness of it all, especially when i extend out my arms and it looks like i've got bat wings. plus i feel like a total witch baby when i wear it--especially now with the witchy hair!

Black.

I suppose now would be a good time to mention that I got rid of the teal in my hair. I was pretty bummed about letting it go because I have never before felt so "me" until I went teal but, it's been a long time with it and I needed a change. A fresh start for 2014 if you will. But of course, knowing me, you know I had to do it my way--so i mixed leftover teal with the black and it created a freak color so indoors it's black and in the sun it's a witchy black with a greenish tint. Come on, you know me, I couldn't just let it go 100%, but honestly, i'm stoked for it. I like it and that's all that matters. Now moving on to try to tame my bangs to do the middle part thing and eventually get layers so I can try to rock a 70s rocker babe look. Onward!

hello there friends. today is actually a cool and overcast day. and it's kind of chilly! yaaaaay. tights season is upon us! so i should probably go ahead and get a move on and update all my outfits from the last few sunny days we've had. haha. 

let's see things that have been going on...we signed the lease for our apt for another year so i've already gotten into remodel mode. i've got lots of ideas to give this little nook of ours a little revamp. also i want to get back to sewing so i want to create myself a nice work space. ive been going crazy on the pinterest this week looking for organization and design ideas. so if you seen any good ideas holla at me! 

now, let's get to this outfit. um i love this skirt. there i said it. when i first started at threadsence it was a new arrival and it sold out in a few days. so when i actually had some money for it it was gone!!!! sad sad sad. but don't worry because i lurked every corner of the internet until i found it, and i found it over at urbanog!  (and it's now on sale!). this skirt has two slits and it has a mini skirt lining inside but the best part of it? the print makes wrinkles very forgiving. nothing bothers me more than wrinkled clothing, but let's be real, most of us sit and move and do things all day so there's no possible way of not ending up with wrinkled clothing, so when it can be hidden it's always a major plus.

 i know, i know, this outfit got a little crazy with the addition of that plaid shirt. but i'm trying to step out of my comfort zone and trying more print on print combinations. My bestie Marc will be very proud! He's the king of print on print. 

when i wrapped up my internship i bought myself this vanessa mooney cuff as a present for doing so well and surviving a summer internship. it's a copper band so it stains my skin green but it's totally cute so i find it totally worth it. hehe.
and last but not least these shoes are totally rad!! they are really well made and they look expensive even though they were actually very inexpensive! i'm on a budget yo! haha anyway i love these because when i wore them to my sisters house a few days back, my youngest niece who is 4, found a moment to tell me that she really liked my boots and that she wanted a pair lol. she's seriously the cutest kid ever. also, the side buckles make this click-clack noise when i walk, and i actually like that! it makes me feel like im wearing spurs hahaha.

Independence, My Origins, and a Dress

As some of you  may know, yesterday was Mexico's Independence day. Since i have dual citizenship i feel like it's only my duty to be patriotic on that day as well. I mean, i was patriotic this fourth of july so why not right? I guess patriotic would be the wrong term actually because that would probably imply that i would wear green, white and red. whoooops. Okay i guess we can say festive. Yeah, festive is a good descriptor here. hehe. 

We didn't really celebrate the holiday because it was a Monday but we did get together on Saturday night at my parents place to watch the boxing fight between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez & Floyd Mayweather Jr. That was really special to me. Now that i'm older i feel like i'm learning to truly appreciate my family and spending time with them is very important. Also i really like boxing (so what?) and Canelo Alvarez is my maaaaan. I love gingers and maaaaan have you seen those freckles? He didn't win the fight, but it's okay guys, he's only 23, he's got a long career ahead of him. But everyone at my parents house was pretty damn bummed (i kind of still am). 

Oh yeahhh, I'm not sure i have mentioned it here but I'm Mexican-Vietnamese. In case you were wondering why this asian girl is always talking about "growing up mexican",  i was born in beautiful Sinaloa, Mexico and moved to the states when i was six. Yes, i am fluent in Spanish and i'm deeply connected to my roots. I can't say the same about my Vietnamese side, although i do know all the curse words and words about eating and food, so i mean, i know all the important stuff, right? Hahaha but in all seriousness i'm really ashamed that i didn't apply myself and stick it out learning Vietnamese--i want to travel to Vietnam someday but i know that in order to get the experience i want, i will need to speak the language first. Perhaps that will be my goal next year, to learn Vietnamese (obviously i won't be a master at it but my goal is just to get by haha).

So the thing you actually wanted to know: where did this dress come from!? This dress i purchased on a trip to Guanajuato in 2009. I went to visit my good friend Angie who was at the time studying aboard. It was quite honestly one of the most amazing trips i have ever been on. Guanajuato is a college town and it's full of beautiful colors and amazing people and of course the yummiest food. Guanajuato is also known for its mummy museum. Yes, you read that right. hahah maybe i'll post photos from that trip someday. i dont think i even wrote about it on LiveJournal...you know,  back in the LJ days haha. Anyway the dress was actually floor length and had short sleeves that fell down to my elbows! I really had a hard time cutting the dress because the embroidery work is just so delicate and beautiful i didn't want to wreck it! Luckily though the embroidery design on the middle of this dress fell right where i wanted it to be and i didn't have to break up the embroidery too much and then i just removed the sleeves with a seam ripper and added a hem. I wear this dress all the time (even during winter with tights) and i have a feeling it's a dress i'm probably gonna keep forever, or until the very last thread falls apart. Sometimes i wear it unbelted too!

Adventure Time!

you guyssss! sorry i've been a terrible blogger this month. i would be lying if i said life was just happening....it's not really. well it is, duh, but nothing truly exciting has been happening as of late. i mean the most exciting thing was probably i've started taking the bus to work--but that's another story for another day. hehe.

honestly, i've been spending my time reading lurking cooking blogs and watching old movies and adventure time. If you haven't seen Adventure Time then i just, i dunno what to do with you. Turn your netflix on and watch some episodes, then we can be friends. haha. last year of college, when adventure time first was on the air, Marc & Mikesauce were watching it all the time and quoting it all the time and i thought they were nuts, until they forced me to watch it and then i became obsessed. pretty soon we were all walking down the halls of the theatre building laughing and quoting Lumpy Space Princess all day. Because you know, that's totally normal for college super seniors. lol.

Had to pair this of course with my trusty yellow Fjallraven Kanken backpack! Can't go on any adventures without it. It's excellent for music festivals because my pals can always spot me if i get lost haha. i have this silly picture of me creepin on someone with the same backpack as me at Outside Lands two years ago--i'll have to show it to you guys sometime, it's hilarious! By the way, do any of you college graduates feel this affinity towards backpacks now that you've graduated? it's ridiculous, i assumed that maybe once i got older i'd get over backpacks and invest in a real handbag, but i just can't steer away from backpacks. And sometimes it's just weird because it's like well, what do i actually carry in there? I always end up carrying too many books and journals and my computer. And since i downsized to have a tablet with me everywhere i can leave my backpack at home, but noooo i'm still eyeing backpacks like crazy. oh dearrrr
sorry is my nerd showing? hehe. 

i bought  this Finn Mimobot flash drive at work and it's my new favorite thing everrrr. i sure wish we had carried the Princess Bubblegum one instead but ohhhh well. maybe i'll get it one of these days from the internetz. lord knows i dont need it right away, i dont really need a flash drive haha. i mostly needed a new one to transfer powerpoints and moodboards at my internship since i lost my vader flash drive somewhere. i swear to god, now that i'm out of school i find myself always wanting to buy things that really i'd only need/use if i were in school. is this a sign? maybe i should just go back to school...you know, so i can complain about how much i hate it. hahaha. it's a love/hate relationship, it always has been. 

okay i'll shut up about adventure time for now and let me tell you a funny story about this skirt. so i thrifted this skirt back in high school and it was floor length and at the time, just not in fashion. so i cut and hemmed it and then i would just wear it high waisted with a tee shirt tucked in and belted. buuuuut now, i sure wish i hadn't cut it because i really want a black maxi skirt! haha. such is life. 

Festival Style: Outside Lands 2013

I know i said i would update this week buuuuuuuuuut i've been lazy,  let's be real. But anywayyyy, let's talk about Outside Lands! Outside Lands kicks off today and although this year has a rather unimpressive lineup if someone had handed me tickets i would not have said no! haha. Here's what i would deem appropriate to wear to this year's Outside Lands Festival in foggy San Francisco:

If you couldn't tell, I'm all about comfort at festivals. I know most girls want to look super cute and they like wearing really cute things like rompers but let's be real, you're probably going to be trippin on something and then you gotta go to the bathroom. SO you're trippin and trying to get out of your romper in porta-potty. That sounds like fun! Also, heeled booties? You know you're walking on all grass right? GET REAL LADIES! You can still be cute AND dress for comfort! Think about that for your next festival. Oh and don't forget your jacket and long socks for Outside Lands, it may be August, but it gets pretty chilly! Also, a good idea to wear some shorts under your dresses, like some lycra ones help out a lot, you know, unless you WANT people to see your undies. 

Ahhhh i wish i were going only so i could hang out with my sf bestie Mark-Adrian! I think a visit is overdue. 

p.s. if you're going do NOT miss Dublin folk rockers Little Green Cars. They're not really ideal for festivals but their music is so good anyway, just go see them. I'm pretty much girl crushin' on faye so bad! 

Summer Florals


On our days off D & i like to spend time doing "me" things but together. does that even make sense? he likes to skate at the park and i'll just bring along a book and sit and read while he goes and does his thing. watching him skate is fun but sometimes i feel like an uber creeper just watching him. there was a short time when i would bring my board and try to skate with him but the place we go to now has the roughest ground ever and i'm so afraid of tripping over a rock and breaking my arm or something. i'm definitely not as confident on that rough ass ground. we definitely need to find a new skate spot so i can join in on the fun but i mean, i'm in no hurry---i love spending this time reading. my goodreads goal for this year was 15 books so i could focus on my movie watching, but that hasn't proved to be as fruitful. but i still have til the end of the year to catch-up--we'll see!

Remember when i mentioned the weather was being really weird? It's still being super weird. I think it's living so close to the beach now that i feel very thrown off about the "summer" weather. i have spent most of my life living more inland in the SGV and every summer there is SCORCHING hot. so naturally i expected murderous heat this year and nothing yet. just weird humid stuff. today was windy and kind of chilly, hence this sweater. mreh, at least the weather's unpredictability keeps us on our toes!
i love this MINKPINK floral dress! my hair covers most of the top (sorry!) so you can't really see the sweetheart top but that's really my favorite part of this dress. also the fact that it's not too short and it's not long! just right. sometimes i wear it with my docs but that sort of makes it look reeeeallllyyy 90s so i tried something different today. haha.
...and what is any outfit of mine without my signature erica weiner piece, right? haha. here is probably my favorite Erica Weiner piece, the Heartbeats necklace. you can't really tell but it says "This Must Be the Place"---my favorite Talking Heads song. You can see a closer image of the writing here.

Bauhaus Print

Remember that time I mentioned I bought a pair of those crazy print "casual" pants? These are the pants! They're ridiculously comfortable--i want to wear them every day! They were on super sale and I'm glad, otherwise I would have never even thought about giving them a chance. Also, they were called "bauhaus" print pants...so naturally, i was more inclined to purchase them. Lol. isn't that silly? like secret marketing. those copywriters man, they know what they're doing.

Ummm, I love bats. I know it's weird but i just think they're so cute! The folks over at moon raven designs make amazing jewelry and I have been dying to have more of their pieces. For example this little number just killlllssss meeeee. 
I got this key necklace at a Jens Lekman show a few years ago and It's seriously one of my favorite necklaces.  So i just tell everyone that i have the key to Jens Lekman's heart. hahaha. his name is written on the side...but you can't really see it. I wish more artists/bands sold more interesting merch like this. A tee shirt or a tote bag is great and all but sometimes a little surprise like this is pretty neat.

I don't know if you can see the color but I'm super loving this nail polish color from nailtini. It's like this orange/red and it's so bright and summery. I have a knack for liking nail polish colors that are completely inappropriate for my skin tone but whatever, I like this color regardless! This polish came in my ipsy bag for july and I have to admit I'm so glad my last bag was at least somewhat decent. You read that correctly, my last bag. It just wasn't working out. Out of the ten months I've been a subscriber I've only enjoyed two bags to the fullest. Every other bag I would only find one sample I liked and my sister would reap the benefits with the rest of the samples and the bag itself. Mreh. No qualms about cancelling, at least now I can have netflix again with that money. Haha

After D took these pictures for me, we headed over to the Segerstrom lawn for their outdoor showing of Mulan. I was super stoked--i mean, Mulan was only like my favorite movie when I was ten, buuuuuuut, we didn't stay for the screening after all. There were waaaaaayyy too many kiddies (I don't know what we were expecting) and D got uber creeped out so we had to bounce. But it was for the best really, the "lawn" was on concrete and we only brought a blanket to sit on which would've been way too uncomfortable for an hour and 28 minutes of sitting. We went to 25 degrees in Huntington Beach for some delicious burger time instead. No complaints here! We're gonna try to make the next screening, they'll be playing Phantom of the Opera, so hopefully not that many kiddies and we'll be prepared with beach chairs.  Fingers crossed!

Humidity, You Know

Miao. The weather has been so bizarre lately. Hot and humid one day, sprinkling another, sunny as hell, then cloudy but hot. But mostly hot and humid. I'm such a wiener when it comes to hot and humid weather. Blah. My hair just doesn't like to cooperate during times like these and I always end up really close to cutting all of my hair off. But I know better now, because I always do that and then in the fall I'm crying because I don't have long hair! It takes me foreverrrrr to grow my hair out so this year I'm gonna try my hardest to restrain myself. Probably have D hide all the scissors we own too, for extra prevention. Lol. 

Urban Outfitters had a sale recently and I wasn't really expecting to buy anything but this crochet top definitely grabbed my attention and for $20 I had to have it!

If you guys hadn't already noticed, I'm the biggest Erica Weiner fangirl. I love all of her jewelry and rep her constantly. All of her jewelry pieces are so incredibly beautiful it's really hard to refrain from going super broke on her site. Like seriously, just take all of my money, I want all the pretty things! 

This wrong angle necklace is one of the latest purchases I made on the E.W. website and it's become one of my go-to necklaces recently. I love the simplicity of this necklace and it's really fun to play with, lol. 

As for this directions bracelet, I want to wear it every single day! But it's so ridiculously delicate and i would be forever sad if i lost it. This bracelet had to get replaced because the first one i bought broke on me on my first day of wear. It was so crazy. I thought i had lost it but thankfully when i got home i found it in the kitchen, the chain had snapped off. I emailed the good people at Erica Weiner and they sent me a replacement. Their customer service is top notch, and i would know, i've dealt with them several times haha. I really want to buy the other bracelets with the crazy lace agate and the rhodonite stones. SO PRETTY!

And i'm because i'm seriously psycho, this knot ring is also from erica weiner. You thought i was kidding about my fangirl-dom weren't you? Hah

Good Reads: Tales of the Jazz Age


Everyone knows Fitzgerald is my man. But not many know I'm not the biggest fan of short stories. I find them lacking, especially in their endings. I often find myself super immersed in a short story only to be drastically disillusioned by a subpar ending. So naturally, I was not really enthused to read Tales of the Jazz Age because although I love Fitzgerald's novels, I just have learned to stay away from short stories. But how could I not? Have you seen that cover? Coralie Bickford-Smith is a genius! And honestly, I should have known better than to fear Fitzgerald's short stories. They're amazing!

My favorite in this collection was "Bernice Bobs Her Hair". Bratty girls in the 1920s--i meeeeeaaannnn, what's not to love? It's like a flapper girl Mean Girls! You have to read it. I can't wait for The Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night to be published in the US with the Coralie Bickford-Smith covers. Debbie gave me This Side of Paradise and The Beautiful and the Damned for my birthday last year and they're just so beautiful when they're together! I just have to have them all.
